The
main goal of The Cutting Edge is to bring fencing to youth via
during-school and after-school programs.

"Time reveals truth. And since
distance creates time, it is only with this that you can ever know the
truth."
"Winning isn't a some time
thing--it's an all time thing."
-- Vince Lombardi
"Those who fear to try know not
their limits, and thus--know not themselves."
"Parry as late as you dare."
-- Bruce Lee
"No different! Same! Only
different in your mind!"
-- "Jedi
Master Yoda"
"If you are afraid to be
struck, you will be struck. If you are afraid to hit, you will be
hit. If you wait to 'see' the moment to attack, you will be
attacked. You must feel when the door is open, and no more."
--Master R. Chu
"When the moment comes--'I' do
not hit. It hits all by itself."
-- Bruce Lee
"Do. Or do not. There is no
'try'..."
-- "Jedi Master Yoda"
"The highest art is no art. The best
form is no form."
-- Bruce Lee

Not all of
Matthew's
life revolves around fencing! Moniteur
Matthew Carauddo has studied performance since 1984. He has
worked in over 75 productions, from Shakespearean to unknown artistry,
vibrant musicals to voiceless movement pieces. In 2000, there was
the role of Bilbo Baggins--a favorite of his--in a staged musical
adaptation of J.R.R.
Tolkien's
"The Hobbit". Most recently are the productions he has created
called "Balance of Power"--100% live "Star Wars style" staged combat
tour-de-forces that highlight LED technology, acrobatics, staging
tricks, and a myriad of action and fun effects! The most current
show is episode III, called "A Force Undying", which is currently
postponed until a full cast can be formed.
Matthew is a licensed
fencing instructor,
approved and examined by the Francais Federation D'Escrime (FFE), and
has
taught hundreds of group classes and one-on-one lessons behind the mask
throughout the California bay area at schools, academies of fencing,
and parks & recreational facilities.
He also competes in
sabre locally, regionally, and nationally (when time permits).
Professional experience
as a coach, athlete, and instructor:
- Over 13 years experience with martial art, including
Kung Fu, Jujitsu, Fencing, "Tricking" and Acrobatics, and quite a bit of Staged Combat
- Professionally certified by FFE Masters of Fencing,
also studied under 2 local masters
- Bay Area Sabre Cup Category 2, Champion (2002), Bay
Area Sabre Cup Open, 3rd place (2002)
- Taught over 200 classes in Foil and Sabre—well-known
in local fencing community
- Given 600+ one-on-one lessons in Foil and
Sabre—coached students at 2002 Jr. Olympics
- Fully insured and 100% certified with United States
Fencing Association
- Currently teaching at several SJ/SF schools, parks & recreation departments
By exposing schools to
fencing, my goals are to:
- Promote youth to excel in a unique sport—encourage
students to express themselves as individuals
- Teach that fencing is academic as well as athletic,
cerebral and tactical as well as physical
- Identify applications of fencing to life lessons and
discipline students to be responsible for their actions
- Provide all equipment—no gear purchases of any kind
are necessary in order to learn!
- Strengthen a school with a passionate, vibrant
instructor who cares about our youth and their futures
